Renowned local artist Joseph Bugeja is inviting you all to check-in at HOTEL BABAW. Being the second solo FANTASY ART EXHIBITION, it is being held at The Splendid, Strait Street, Valletta from Sat 29th October till Sun 20th November.
The 25 pieces being exhibited are all acrylics and oils on canvas paintings; and revole mainly around the theme of creatures and beliefs we find in Maltese folklore that mainly spread ‘fear’ through the years.
The exhibition is going to held as what used to be known as the ‘Splendid Hotel’ which was at it’s peak during the era of the 1950s, back when Strait Street was considered one of the focal points of local entertainment. It is said that the hotel had to shut down after a murder took place in one of the rooms; and thus in remained in neglect for many years. Needless to say, the place is also considered one of the most haunted places in Malta. As of recently though ‘Fonazzjoni Sir Temi Zammit’ are in the process of turning it into a hub for cultural events.
‘Hotel Babaw’ is also being held during the Halloween season, making the timing match the theme and the location perfectly. The event promises a unique experience; especially for all those who don’t usually visit art exhibitions. The idea is also to re-generate the interest towards Maltese Folklore and the legends that surround the creatures featured in the paintings, and who knows? Maybe you could also encounter one of the ‘Staff from the other side’ of Hotel Babaw.
